May 1- Water level at Falcon is at 294.3 ft. and water temp. is at 78 degrees. The last two weeks of April were excellent; even though we had to deal with high winds and temperatures up to 94 degrees. May will be even better with the bigger fish starting on their summer pattern. Threadfin shad are all over the lake, and the small 2 to 3 lb. fish can be caught in windy points with rattle traps, spinnerbaits and small flukes using the PG143 6 10" rod. Also, you can catch bigger fish below the schooling fish with big worms or swimming jigs on the PG104 using a carolina rig with a smaller weight, 5/8 to 1/2 oz in flooded brush in 20 ft. of water. The top of the brush is about 5 ft. below the surface, and using the smaller weights, can really bring some big fish out of the brush. Also, with the lake dropping, flipping bushes using the GM5-7'3” flipping rod with 1 oz jig or any creature bait. I personally like the Lake Fork Hyper Freak as a jig trailer or by itself with a 1 oz weight. Falcon Lake is one of the greatest places you can come and fish any style that you are comfortable with, whether is a crank bait, spinnerbait, wacky worm, carolina rig or my favorite, a short striking big fish out of the thick brush with my flipping stick. The heat is on and for the next three months fishing should get better. Come by the store, e-mail us or call us if we can be of any help. Robert Amaya Robert’s Fish n Tackle 2425 S.
