Lake Amistad Fishing Report-February 2010 |
Lake Amistad Fishing Report-February 2010 February on Amistad will be a great month to catch both numbers of fish and big fish. There will also be a good deep water bite and an improving shallow bite especially in late February. The most consistant way to catch fish will be to fish deep ( 28'-45'). Look for areas where a long main lake point or ridge is intersected by a creek channel, then graph until you see fish or see baitfish sitting on or very near the bottom. 3/4 oz.-1oz football jigs as well as Texas rigged worms and senkos will catch the more active fish and a drop shotted fluke will catch the more stubborn ones. Green pumpkin/red and watermelon/red are my best colors in all these baits. Another great pattern will be to key on early spawning fish. Some fish will spawn on Amistad later this month and the back of the big creeks on the Mexico side will be the first to warm. Suspending jerk baits, floating worms, and Texas rigged senkos will do the trick. I will usually key on the last couple of flats in the back of these creeks. Look for a mixture of brush and patchy hydrilla in 8'-15' and cover water. The fish will be in small packs and one you catch one ther will be more in the area. Good luck on your next trip to Amistad.
