Lake Amistad Fishing Report-May 2010 |
|
Amistad report May 2010 The bass fishing here is as good as it gets, I am already having 100 plus fish days with at least 30 of those being over 3 lbs up to 6 with an occasional giant up to 9 or better. Amistad is about three feet low with the water temps slowly getting into the 70's. The grass is really growing good especially the shallow grass. It is a good mix of hydrilla, pepper grass, and some kind of hair grass. The deep hydrilla is looking good on some open water flats out to 25ft and I expect it to get real right this Summer! On recent trips we have caught fish on several different baits. There has even been an incredible top water bite on baits like a Reaction Innovations Vixen. Light Tx rigs have been the go to bait though, it is so versatile fishing around new grass deep or shallow. Skinny dipper swim baits on a 1/8th oz weighted hook is another fish catcher over that 5 to 10 ft shallow grass. DD22 or Strike King XD6 crank baits fished over the hydrilla from 18 to 25 ft is another technique for fishing deeper grass. The hard body swim baits like the Tru Tungsten Tru life Swimmer will be a bait to fish all day as soon as the blue gill start spawning later this month and into next. Go out and enjoy Lake Amistad at its finest! Thanks, Ray Hanselman
