Lake Amistad Fishing Report-October 2008 |
|
Lake Amistad fishing report – October A lot has changed at Lake Amistad since last month’s report. The Lake level is currently 1117 which is normal conservation pool and first time the lake has been full since May of 1993. This rapid rise in water has created an abundance of flooded grass and brush and is holding a lot of big bass and should continue to do so as the lake is expected to continue rising this Month. A great way to catch fish under these high water conditions is to key on areas where you can get your boat on or near the bank. This is easier said than done as the brush is very thick. Look for areas where you can get behind the brush and look for fish feeding on shad or dragon flies. When active fish are found they are often in tight schools, and easy to catch. A bone or black vixen or spook works extremely well as does a black or brown frog. A great rod for frogs is Power Tackle's PG-104.5, this is a 7’6” rod with enough tip to allow for long casts and plenty of backbone to extract big fish from any cover. Another pattern that should continue to improve is the inside grass line in 15-17’ of water. Key on areas where the inside edges intersects the back of drains and fish a Texas rigged Green pumpkin senko or light weight Carolina rig. Small shad pattern crank baits and lipless crank baits will also work in these areas. Look for schooling bass in these same inside grass areas. San Pedro creeks as well as several of the secondary creeks off of it are very productive now. Burro, Zorro, and Tule creeks are also holding many shallow fish. This should be one of the most exciting falls in many years on Amistad. To book a trip or to talk fishing please give me a call at 254-681-9566 or e-mail me at www.trophybassguide.com.
