Power Tackle - Lake Amistad Fishing Report
Lake Amistad Fishing Report-October 2009

Lake Amistad Fishing Report....

I will attempt this month's Amistad Fishing Report, since most of my guys are off fishing tournaments and forgot to get me one so here goes.
Seems like the fishing is picking up here at Amistad.  Could be due to the change of weather or the water being pulled, but never the less, this is good news.  Fishing has been pretty tough here at the Big Blue Lake...not to worry though, it is just part of a cycle that will surely come back around to being a producer of some of Texas Best Bass!
We have been fishing this past month mostly on the Mexico side flipping grass in 18-25 feet of water.  Of course, our rod of choice is a PT05-7'6", our heaviest flipping stick, but I also have been using a PT04.5-7'6" which has hauled out numerous 4-5 lb fish that have been slung in the boat. Our bait of choice is the 1 oz oldham jig in the little gator color with a Strike King Rage Craw. The worming bite has been good too, with reports of 4- 6 lb fish being produced.  I have been using the PT04-7'6" rod with a 13" Gambler worm in the watermelon colors and the plum colors before daylight.  Flipping in some of the visual hydrilla and pepper grass brought us a nice fat 6 pounder too.
Having some good reports of the cranking bite picking up too.

On the American, Main Lake side, we are hearing reports of a good bite again under the 277 bridge.  This place is notorious for being a fish factory and though the bite slowed this past summer, it sounds like they are showing up again there.

Then, though we did not fish this way, the most popular style of fishing of late has been the frog bite.  Throwing a Swamp Donkey or a Strike King Rage tail Shad toward the bank and reeling fast over the pepper grass, then periodic stops has been reporting the biggest fish being caught of late.  Remember, as I have had to, to make sure you let the fish take the bait down before you set the hook and not jerk it out of his mouth...the blow up on the water they create when they hit the frog, may surprise you and cause you to jerk before the fish has it fully in his mouth. (from experience!)

Hope you get the chance to get down here soon...the weather is simply wonderful and you can be assured of a great time on the lake!

Til later,
Judy Churchill
