Power Tackle - Lake Choke Canyon Fishing Report
Choke Canyon Lake Fishing Report - August 2008

Early morning top water bites as well as the swimbait bites are still holding up on the inside grassline here at Choke Canyon.  The water temp. is in the high 80's and the water clarity is clear.  In this season there is usually an excellent jig bite in the hydrilla.  I use my Power Tackle GM5 7'3" rod while flippin' a jig in the grass.  It seems to be able to pull any size fish from the heaviest of grass cover.  When flippin grass, try to flip the outside of it as there is not much tapering grass left.  You should also have an opportunity to catch fish on deep ridges, in 20- 30 ft. of water.

Lots of different patterns can be fished at this time of year.  The frog bite has proven to be very good and I use GM5 7'3" as well as the longer  SB4 8'0".  This Swimbait rod is perfect for long-casting a frog or toad around sparse grass and some of the cover that we have here at Choke.  The average daily catch here in August can consist of 25 fish, with at least one or two big fish typically weighing in at 7# to 8#.

If you are planning a fishing trip, I encourage you to try and book a stay at the Choke Canyon Lodge.  This place is close to the ramps and they cater to fishermen, with great parking and security for trucks and boats.  They also carry a great line of Power Tackle rods that were picked for fishing Choke.

Happy Fishing,

Charles Whited
