Lake Choke Canyon Fishing Report-April 2009 |
|
Choke Canyon Fishing Report for April water: stained temp: 70's March was as good as everyone expected with several cold fronts. My clients boated 11 fish over 9 lbs. biggest being 11'13. It was a phenomenal month, with every trip having over 20 lb. sacks. April should be even better; fronts should be fewer making for clearer water. The best bite has been in four to seven foot of water using red rattle traps 3/4 and 1/2 oz. all day long. Other moving baits have been lucky craft 2.0 and 2.5 shad pattern square bill. When you get tired of cranking, the 6” and 8” watermelon red and green pumpkin senkos with an 1/8 oz. Texas rig, will produce the big girls. As April approaches a lot of fish are finished with the spawn and are starting to move out to deeper points and ridges. I suggest you use dd22's, carolina rigs and 1 oz. spinner baits in various colors, (Shad pattern and tilapia colors). Don't forget the frog and buzz bait bite will be approaching quickly.
