Power Tackle - Lake Choke Canyon Fishing Report
Lake Choke Canyon Fishing Report - June 2008
Written by Charles Whited - Pro Staff

May was a very strange month for fishing at Choke Canyon.  The water temperature has been on the rise and at report time was 74 degrees with the water slightly stained. The bite has been sporadic and unpredictable, but there has been success on the top water bite, and I suggest that you keep throwing the top water lures throughout June.  There are a lot of big fish in the shallows.  There have been several fish over ten pounds caught lately on bass colored Pop-R's.  The "flippin" bite in the grass has been excellent for an afternoon bite.  Some days you can get around 20 - 30 bites using your favorite plastics behind a 1 oz. tungsten weight, and the rod of choice would be the Power Tackle GM5.  This rod has the muscle to pull these fish out of this lake's heavy grass.

The deep crank bite is hit and miss, but don't leave it out, the fish should be there soon.  An excellent choice to try would be a Power Tackle PGC170 cranking rod with a Lure/Jensen 3/4 oz. Hot Lips bait in Tennessee Shad color.

Next time you are in the Choke Canyon area, be sure to try to stay at Choke Canyon Lodge.  It is a top-notch lodge for the outdoorsman and they are now carrying the Power Tackle rods.

Good Luck,
