Lake Choke Canyon Fishing Report-March 2009 |
Water Clarity: StainedWater Temp. From 61 degrees, reaching to 72 in some pockets in the afternoons. The fishing at Choke Canyon has been phenomenal…2 Sharelunkers have been caught this past month and daily reports of 10#, 11# and 12# hogs have been caught. One day I had 5 fish caught weighing from 9#- 11#, and we average about 25 fish a day…it has been fun! For the early bite we throw spinner baits and chatterbaits, then as the day goes on a red rattle trap on top of the fresh grass in 5’ to 7’ have been producing good bites. Be sure to fish all of the secondary points thoroughly. These points all have gravel on them that seem to warm up faster than the rest of the bottom, so that is where these good fish are laying. I throw a square billed crank bait and a 10” worm out from 1’ to 15’.Most of the fish are caught shallow, but I did catch two 9# in some deeper water on the lower end of the lake. When fishing deeper use a Carolina rigged watermelon red lizard.Reports of these monster bass have made the guide business down here awesome, and I do not look for things to slow down much, so make some time to fish Choke Canyon sometime this spring. Feel free to give me a call when you get down here, and if you are planning on fishing the BassChamps here on March 21st, check out the Power Tackle rods that are at Choke Canyon Lodge.Good Fishing,Charles Whited512-557-6772
