The water temperature here at Choke Canyon is 90 degrees and the water is clear. There are alot of different patterns at this time of year. There is still an early bite on a frog and pop-r's in the grass using shad pattern colors. The Power Tackle rod I use for this application is the PG104.5 7'6". This rod has proven to walk these baits across the grass with sensitivity and still have all of the muscle to drag some of these monster bass out of the water. The deeper ridges and humps have been producing bigger fish, fishing in 25-35 feet of water. I use a 1 oz football jig with the Power Tackle FB4 7'3" or when I Carolina rig, I drag a watermelon red fluke with a PG104 7'6". As the day gets hotter you can also count on a flipping bite on the outer edges of the hydrilla in 12-15 feet of water. The average day you can expect 20 fish days with 2 or 3 over 5 pounds. Try to plan a trip to this great lake soon and when you do, be sure to plan your lodging at Choke Canyon Lodge. 1st class lodging that caters to fishermen!
