Power Tackle - Lake Fork Fishing Report
Lake Fork Fishing Report-August 2009

Lake Fork Fishing Report-August 2009

Well the bass fishing here at Lake Fork has been pretty good this month. Between me and clients we have landed 6 over 10lbs, with several 50-75 fish days. We have had a ton of rain the last few days including one evening of steady rain that ended up equalling 7 inches. So with that said the lake is on the rise and several of the flood gates are open at this time. Anyone who has fished Fork knows when the gates are open the fishing can be feast or famine, it seams to really set these fish up on the structure to where when you find them you can really do well in a short period of time. This month my Power Tackle rods on deck will include...

PG104-7'6"/Revo Premier-Carolina rig on 20lb Seaguar InvisX, 1oz Tru Tungsten weight and a 2-3ft leader of 15lb InvisX. I feel that the smaller baits tend to catch the larger fish here due to the fact that everyone who comes to Fork throw 10-14" worms. The fish are accustomed to these baits coming by, these baits will definitely catch them but they like every other bait has its time and place. I think a 7" Powerworm in Blue Fleck of Motor Oil is hard to beat.

FB4-7'3"/Revo Premier- 3/4-1oz Picasso Fantasy Football Jig in Green/Pumpkin/Amber/Red paired with a Green Pumpkin Chigger Craw. This bait can be a killer bait when your fish stop paying interest to your rig, somedays this bait will flat out catch the big ones when that rig just catches 4-6lbers.

PGC170-7'0"-/Revo Winch with a Sexy Shad DD-22 on 12lb Seaguar InvisX. I will throw this crankbait over any deep structure that is holding bait and fish, spots that seem productive include mainlake points, roadbeds, timber lines and humps.

GM5-7'3"\Revo Premier, spooled with 20lb Seaguar InvisX. I prefer to flip a Green Pumpkin or Watermelon Candy Berkley Chigger Craw or a Beast in Green or Watermelon Red. Team one of those baits with a 3/4-1oz Tru-Tungsten flipping weight. I will target the numerous grass lines ranging from 8-16ft. Generaly the greener and deeper the vegetation, the better the fish. Remember you may flip one grass line for an hour and then you will find the 100yd stretch were the majority of the fish will be hanging out waiting for a Berkley bait to drop by.

I still have a few dates available for August so if I can help you in any way in your next quest to Lake Fork, feel free to give me a call. If anyone is looking for a great deal on a 2008 Ranger Z520 paired with a 250 Mercury ProXs I have one ready for a new home.

Until next time, God Bless & Tight Lines
