Lake Fork Fishing Report-November 2009 |
|
The fishing has been pretty good considering the conditions we have been dealing with. Well, as most of you know, Texas has gotten some/alot of rain especially here at Fork. The gates have been open for quite awhile but have finally been shut. I have been catching fish shallow in the vegetation as well as deep on humps, roadbeds, points and bridges.
Shallow vegetation in 1-16 foot of water, I have been using 2 main patterns. First and great for numbers as well as the occasional big fish is the wacky worm, I prefer Kicker Fish Bait Companys Hole Shot Worm in Watermelon Red. I'm fishing this worm wacky style on a 2/0 Owner Wacky Worm Hook. The key to hooking/catching these fish is to use a sweeping hook set not a hark hookset like on a jig. Cast it out, let it set a few and raise your rod tip, then repeat. The bite varies, sometimes they smash it and sometimes it just gets mushy. For my big fish I have been throwing a 1/2-3/4oz Lucky Craft LV-500 on the shallow water and a LV-10 on the deeper tops and on the actual grass lines. The key to catching giants on this bait is to keep it ticking the tops of the grass. Some days the fish are very aggresive and you can really get it moving and some days you have to just get it to were it will vibrate then when you get it in the grass, rip it free and be ready because most of the bites will be while it's falling. As far as catching the deep fish they are slightly scattered but when you find them, you really find them. They are still eating up the Picasso Fantasy Football Head Jigs in green pumpkin/amber/red along with cranking the Lucky Craft D-20s, Basstrix Swimbait on the Spintrix as well as the ole faithfull Carolina Rig. I hope your next trip to Lake Fork is a great one, If you have any ?s or need anything while you are down feel free to contact me. I am starting to fill up fast for the 2010 spawn so if you are interested in booking a trip give me a call and we go and find you that fish if a lifetime!!!
