Well it's time for some fantastic Fall Bassin’ here at Lake Fork. Throughout October’s report I will not be able to stress enough the importance of your electronics. I choose Lowrance because of their cutting edge technology in the electronic world. Lowrance is about to introduce their structure scan which is a 3-D imaging on both sides of the boat as well as the same 3-D image under the boat as your traditional 2-D transducer would. This new technology will be a simple add-on available for any of the new HDS units. Your electronics are so valuable in any season but in the fall they show you where the bait is. When you find the bait you will find the bass very close by, most likely in some sort of structure. As far as structure goes it can range from brush, ledges, bridges, humps or points. As far as what baits to try after you find them with your graph I try to decide where the fish are holding in relation to the bottom.
Very close to the bottom I like a Picasso Fantasy Football Head jig in green pumpkin paired with a green pumpkin Paca Craw. A few feet off the bottom I like a Carolina rig with a 3/4 to 1oz Tru-Tungsten weight and a Zoom Centipede in watermelon candy or green pumpkin. Another good bait to try is a Lake Fork Tackle Flutter Spoon; this is the spoon we have all seen Kelly Jordan stroking up the giants on the 2008 Ultimate Match Fishing at Kentucky Lake. With this spoon you cast it out, let it hit bottom and once it does "stroke" it. When I use the term "stroke" I'm simply referring to a technique where you simply raise your rod from a 9 o'clock to a 1 o'clock, let it sink and repeat. I will also recommend a technique where you can also use the spoon on suspended fish. When you mark suspended fish I choose a Basstrix Swim Bait rigged on a 3/8 oz Spintrix. I simply cast it out and count it down to the desired depth and slowly reel it in; when you get a bite on this bait your rod will just load up. I like throwing this one on a PG143-7'0" due to it's lighter tip. Sometimes you will feel a fish smack it once or twice before it actually gets it but just keep reeling and it will come back with a vengeance. I hope this helps you on your next venture out on the great Lake Fork. While you’re in town stop by and check out Diamond Sports Marine’s full line of Ranger boats; they have the new 2010 Ranger Z520, and it's one awesome rig.
