Lake Sam Rayburn Fishing Report-April 2009 |
|
Lake Sam Rayburn Fishing Report, April 2009 Lake level 160.59 and water temp 64 to 68 degrees. With the lake four feet low we still do not have any bushes to fish, the coon’s and hogs are still living in the bushes at this time. We are getting into a put of the year when we do not receive a lot of rain, other than an afternoon thunder storm. So it’s really looking like we are going to have a low lake getting into our summer months. I have been starting off in 2 to 6 feet. I have been using a wide range of baits, PG-144 with a TX rigged lizard, PG-104 with a senko, and PG-142 with a wacky-worm. With the water in the flooded hay grass the bass have been feeding in and around this area all day. I like to start off around the hay grass in the morning but I have started to work back around the hay grass later in the day. The bass have been spawn around the grass and also using the grass to hide their fry. I have been able to catch a few fish out a little deeper in the 6 to 10 foot ranger but these fish are really scattered around. These fish I have been using a PG104.5 with a Caroline rigged baby-brush hog and french fry. I have been able to use a PGC-170 with a 6 to 8 foot diving crankbait. As we get later in April you will start to see lot’s more fish start to show up in the area, but keep in mind since there is no grass the bass will be following the shad. That means if you are looking for areas like this make sure to find the bait first, this will save you a lot of fishing time. Another key is to remember that in April there are still fish that are going to spawn with the April full moon, but there were lots of fish that spawn in February and March that have left the bank. That means that there are lots of fish off the bank looking at getting into that summer time pattern. Since last month the lake came up some but please keep your eyes open for the main lake ridges that are above the bridge and in the Buck Bay area. These areas now have between 1 to 2 feet of water on them. Stephen Johnston 409-579-4213
