Lake Sam Rayburn Fishing Report-August 2009 |
|
Sam Rayburn Report-August 2009 It’s that time of the year when other people think the bass fishermen are crazy being out on the water with the temp running in the 100 just about everyday of the week. August is one of the months on Rayburn that you can catch fish from 2 to 30 feet of water. The top water action with your PG144-7'0" and PG104-7'6" is great to start the morning off, on the edge of the bank there is pepper grass running from 2 to 6 feet of water in just about all the main creek of the lake. Best top water baits to use are Pop R’s, Ribbet frog’s, Spook’s and always Buzz Bait. Lot’s of anglers leave the bank once the sun comes up and early morning bite goes away, but at Rayburn some of the best top water action happens later in the morning and during the middle of the day. Another way to catch them is to fish off the edge of the grass with your PG144-7'0" with a TX Rigged worm and using your PG104.5-7'6" with a Carolina Rig, and with your Carolina rig you can use from a french fry to a brush hog. The best depth is depending on the depth of the grass and at this time the grass edge is running from 5 to 9 feet of water. Best colors on worms are june-bug, plum, and red-bug. The big jig fishing is still going on in August and this is sometimes the best month of the year, so pull out your PG105-7'6" with your 1 or 1 ¼ oz jigs and go to work. The best colors in the jig are black-blue and camo-flag. With the grass only going out to around 10 feet this puts a lot of fish on the main points following the shad around, this is when you pick up your PTC70-7'0" with your big crank bait’s and go to work. I like using DD-22 and Bomber A, best colors are shad and perch. Just keep in mine to drink plenty of water and always have ice to keep those big bass alive.
