Power Tackle - Lake Sam Rayburn Fishing Report
Lake Sam Rayburn Fishing Report-March 2009

Again...this will be the same fishing report as February...Stephen has been guiding here all month and says nothing much has changed...maybe the lake level has dropped a bit.  The FLW Stren will be here at this lake on March 19-21.  Power Tackle has quite a few of it's Pro Staff that are going to be fishing this, so watch for results and live weigh ins at www.flwoutdoors.com

Sam Rayburn Report Lake level is 158.09, water temp high 50’s. I have been starting off with a Carolina rig with a water-melon lizard in 10 to 14 feet of water. With the water being low at Rayburn it has really changed the way we are fishing this spring. I have been starting out deeper looking for those big females setting on the main lake points waiting for the water temp to get right before they move in. On my Carolina rig I like using a ¾ or 1 oz weight, with a 16 to 19 inch leader. Since I use the bigger weight on my rig, I like using PG-104.5. The next step I have been moving on the edge of the shallow grass in 4 to 7 ft. and picking up my PGC170 with a 4 to 6 ft deep running crankbait,  the best color has been Rayburn Red! Then picking up my PG-104 with my Sebile Flat Shad 77, in a gold or red craw color and coving water. With the water being low and not a lot of water on the grass, I think that fish are moving in and out of the grass to feed. Saying that, I have been fishing some grass areas up to four times a day at different times, trying to catch the fish up feeding on the grass. When the lake is at normal level there is enough water for the fish to back out on the edge of the grass and sitting there while not feeding, but at this time there is just not enough water. Later in the day I have been moving up on top of the grass and looking for holes in the grass or any inside line where the fish can move up and feed. The best baits for this is a TX rig lizard and Senko, using my PG-144 for both of these baits.

If you are thinking about making a trip to Big Sam or would like some more info please give me a call or e-mail.
