Lake Sam Rayburn Fishing Report-November 2009

Sam Rayburn Report

The lake was about four feet low in later September, but since the recent rains, it has risen and is only 1 1/4 ft low. October/November are my favorite months of the year to fish Big Sam, my main reason is that you can catch fish from 1 to 25 feet of water. These cooler mornings I like to start off with my PG-104 with a buzz bait, super spook or frog. All of these baits you can fish them on top of the grass or on the edge of the grass mat. On the edge of the grass mat use your PG-144 with your chatter bait, spinner bait or TX rig, these baits you can fish them early and later during the day. Then it is time to go to work in the grass, pick up your PG-104.5 and PG-105 with your braided line. Best to use your worm or craw worm on your PG-104.5 and keep your 1 or 1 ¼ oz. jigs on your PG-105. The deeper fish will come on your PG-104 and your PG-104.5, with these sticks best to use your football jig on your PG-104 and keep Caroline rig on your PG-104.5. I like to use these baits on main lake points and main lake ridges. Make sure to use you Humminbird 997, to help you find the bait. When you find the bait the fish will not be far, remember early in the month the bait will be deeper like 20 to 25, then as the water cools off look more in the 12 to 18 foot range. This works the same on the shallow grass fish, that’s when you use your PG-104 and PGC-170 with your lipless baits, like Red Eye Shad, Flat Shad and Rat-l-Trap. Fish these bait on the edge of the grass mat and on top of the short growing grass.
Good Luck Fish Big Sam
