A Busy Couple of Months

Well I told you last month that September and October were going to be a whirlwind couple of months and so far, that was an understatement! Our pro staff and many of our Power Tackle Tournament fishermen and gals have gone from one tournament to another and it will not let up until the middle of November, but it is what we all wait for! Fishing in general is a passion, then for the competitive in nature, (which is most of us), adding the thrill of the chase makes this season even more exciting. Of course, the bleak news of the economy has slowed some down, but I believe that most of us will find a way to keep our passion of fishing and competition going. Last month I touched on the importance of choosing quality equipment if you are putting your entry fees on the line and now I want to re-emphasize this. When you are willing to put up 150.00-1500.00 per tournament entry fee and all of the other expenses that go with it, you must be willing to invest in equipment that will not let you down when in battle. If you can be assured of being able to rely on your fishing line, your lures, boat and rods, then you can set your mind to just finding and landing those fish.

Changes in the Rod Lineup

We have been making a few changes in our rod line up that I think you will all like. You know now that we are offering cork in the PG104C-7’6”, the PG104.5C-7’6”, the PG142C-7’0”, the PG143C-6’10” and the new PG143C-7’0”. Now we are making our spinning rods, the SPN43-7’0” and the SPN44-7’0” in cork. We are discontinuing a few of our models also. They are as follows:

  • Discontinuing the SPN41 in 7’6” and 7’10”.
  • Removing the PTC-7’6” cranking rod, but adding a very sought after cranking rod the new PGC173-7’3” and the palm gripped model the PTC73-7’3”.
  • We are also discontinuing the FB4-7’3” rod, but making it a 7’6”…calling it a FB4-7’6” same action as the FB4-7’3” and the same price.

A Couple of Shots to Fuel the Fishing Flames

TOURNAMENT NEWS
Great month for many of our anglers on the tournament circuit. We are so very proud of Mark Menendez for his performance this year. He made all of his sponsors very happy and especially us here at Power Tackle. He, of course, will be fishing the BassMaster Classic in Birmingham, Alabama at Lake Lay, on February 19-21, 2010. He finished his year at the ShootOut events in 11th place.

Stephen Johnston has had big news of late. He won the BASS Central Open on Lake Sam Rayburn on September 3-5 in a big way. Johnston went into the last day with a comfortable 8-pound cushion, and sealed it with a final weight of 57.5, a nearly 10 lb. lead. The last stop on the 2009 Central Open trail is Nov. 5-7 on Louisiana's Atchafalaya Basin, where Stephen will being swinging for the fences for a chance to fish the BassMaster Classic in February with Mark.
Stephen and his son Danny have had great success this summer at the Bass n Bucks Series at Lake Sam Rayburn. During the 1st Series, they finished 1st and was named Anglers of the Year for that Series. During the 2nd Series, they landed 2nd place and was 2nd in the Angler of the Year Standings.
With this success, Stephen has been faced with the possibility of trying his hand on the Elite Trail. Go to www.fishpaa.com and read the article about “Stephen Johnston-Elite Future?” Whatever trail he is on, we are very happy to have him as part of Power Tackle and we will support him wherever he goes.

Keith Combs has already qualified for the 2010 Forrest Wood Cup by finishing 6th in the Angler of the Year for the FLW Series. We are very proud of Keith for all of his hard work this year and the way he has represented Power Tackle. 2010 promises to be a great year for him. He will finish off 2009 fishing the Toledo Bend PAA event October 8-11th and then on to the final FLW Texas Stren Series at Toledo Bend the next week. The FLW Stren Championship will then be held at lake Pickwick in Alabama on November 4-7.

Power Tackle’s Tim Reneau and Ray Hanselman will also be on the same trail as Keith with 2 back to back Toledo Bend tournaments and then the Stren Championship. Travis Darley, Bob Ballard and Jerry Green will be following the team to Toledo Bend as well for the last Stren also. We are hoping for a Power Tackle sweep in East Texas!

The S.I.T. was held on September 19-20 here at Amistad and though Power Tackle did not have a winner, we had several of our teams in the money.

The Texas Bass Couples Championship was held the following weekend, September 26-27 here at Amistad. Tim Reneau and Judy Churchill won the 2 day event with over 42 lbs. Lannie and Cathy Bagget of Eldorado placed 2nd and Lannie caught the big bass of the tournament, an 8.46. Lannie is now a Power Tackle rod believer and will be pulling more big bass out of the grass with his new PG105-7’6”.

There is a heart pumping new video out. One of our pro staffer, Charles Whited and the TTZ team on Lake Sugar in Mexico. Be sure to click on this link and watch the action! www.ttz1.com and click on the directors cut version of the site.

Our ThinWater Pro Staffer Kasey Mock said this, “We put the new Power Tackle Thin Water Series rods to the test this weekend. Caught eight jacks all weighing about 40 lbs each. I put all the pressure I could on the 40 lb Fins Braided line and Power Tackle rods and they still took about 20 minutes each to reel in. These rods are the real deal. I had three guys on the boat that had never saltwater fished before, so it was a great time with everyone catching their personal best fish. Check out the pictures.”

Like I said, a very busy time of year, but it will definitely keep your blood pumping trying to keep up. Take the time to get on the water some and enjoy all of our lakes. Remember to always feel free to call us for any questions you may have about the rods, or just to BRAG about a big catch and send us pictures!
