Toledo Bend Fishing Report-June 2009 As of June 1, 2009, the lake level at Toledo Bend is 171.88 which is just about a tenth of an inch below full pool. The water temperature is right around 80 degrees. The fishing has been fairly good with the majority of the fish finally moving out to their summer haunts. However, there are still some good fish being caught around the pepper grass and lily pads on poppers and Stanley Ribbits. I would start each morning by throwing either a Norman DD 22 in a shad color on a PGC-170-7’0” or a Carolina Rigged brush hog or fluke on a PG-104.5-7’6”. Try fishing creek bends and ridges in the 18 to 22 foot range with the crank bait and Carolina Rig. On the south end of the lake a lot of good fish are being caught on the outside edge of the grass in 14 to 16 foot. Try throwing a PG-144-7’0” with a Texas Rigged worm on 16 lb. fluorocarbon line or a Norman DD 14 in shad colors. When the sun comes out its time to pull the big rods out and start punching the grass. Try throwing a 1 oz. or a 1 and 1/4 oz. Falcon jig in either black blue or black brown and amber colors on a GM5-7'3" with 65 lb. braided line. Remember that as summer bears down on us to take extra special care of all of the fish you handle. Good luck on the lake. Thanks, Danny Iles www.johnstonfishing.com |
