Toledo Bend Fishing Report-August 2009 |

Toledo Bend Fishing Report-August 2009 As of August 3, 2009 the lake level at Toledo Bend was 169.39 which puts the lake about 2.6 feet below full pool. The water temperature fell a little during last week because of the recent rains and cloudy weather but should be back in the low 90’s before long. The fish were fairly easy to catch over the majority of last week due to all the cloud cover. However, the fishing patterns remain very similar to last months. I would start each morning by throwing a Texas Rigged ten inch worm in red bug on a PG144-7’0” with a ¼ oz. weight on the edge of the grass. If there is some cloud cover try throwing a bandit 200 series crank bait or a rattle trap in a shad color on top of the grass. Once the Texas Rig bite starts to slow down I would try targeting the school fish. Try looking for the schooling fish around channel bends and sharp drop offs in the mid to back half of the main creek channels. When they come up try throwing a Sebile Bonga Minnow or a Zara Spook on a PG143-6’10”. If they will not hit the top water try throwing a deep little N or a bandit 200 on a PGC170-7’0” in areas where bait is present. Most of the bigger fish I have been catching have been coming on a 1 oz. falcon jig in a black brown and amber color. Try flipping the jig on a GM5-7'3" with 65 lb. power pro on the edge of the grass. Good luck on the lake. Thanks, Danny Iles www.Johnstonfishing.com
