Toledo Bend Fishing Report-July 2010 |
|
As of June 30, 2010 the lake level at Toledo Bend is 168.71 which has the lake about three feet below full pool. The fishing is fairly good and seems to be getting better everyday. There are lots of school fish in the back halves of the major creeks on the lower end of the lake that are fairly easy to find. If it is calm, look for the breaking fish and target them with shallow crank baits and top waters. I generally throw shad colored 100 and 200 series Bandits on a PGC170-7’0” or either a clear or bone colored Pop-R on a PG143-6’10”. If you can not see any activity, try looking for the shad around creek bends and points anywhere from 10 to 25 feet deep. I generally throw either a DD 22 or a series six Strike King in a shad color when I find the bait. If they will not eat the crank bait try throwing a Carolina Rig in the same places with either a water melon fluke or baby brush hog. There has also been a lot of good fish up in the pads and pepper grass chasing after brim. I have been having the most success in the pads on a black Spro Bronzeye frog thrown on 50 lb. braid with a PG104-7’6”. Good Luck, Danny Iles www.Johnstonsfishing.com
