Toledo Bend Fishing Report-March 2009 |
|
Toledo Bend Report This month's Toldeo Bend Fishing Report is exactly the same as last month...not much has changed. We are all going to be watching the results from the BASS Open that is going on right now to see how things are going. be sure to check out the results on www.espnoutdoors.com. Lake level is 168.78 water temp is high 50’s I have been starting off with a Sebile Flat Shad 66 & 77 in a red craw or perch color, this bait works great with the PG-104 stick. The PG-104 will help you rip the flat shad out of the grass. After the sun comes up I have been moving on the edge of the grass in 10 to 14 feet. I have been cranking a 6 to 8 ft. diving crankbait in red craw or brown craw color, I use a PGC170 with this bait. Also been cranking DD22 in the same colors but on the big baits I like using the PTC70, using this stick you can crank a big bait all day long and have no arm cramps at the end of the day. Later in the afternoons once the water warms all day, I have been moving into the 4 to 6 foot range on the inside edge of the grass. On these fish I have been using the best bait for Toledo Bend, the “Wacky-Worm”. The best colors have been watermelon-red and green pumpkin. For the wacky-worm I use a Falcon K-Wacky hook with 1/16 weight. This model has a weed guard that will help keep the grass off the hook, it works great! Best stick for wacky-worm fishing is PG-142, I will also later in the year use this same stick for the jerk-baits. My other favorite is the TX rig lizard, that’s when I get my PG-144 out with my 1/4oz. weight and go to work. Lot’s of fishermen call this old school fishing but anyone out there that has fished with me knows that I have this stick out on the front deck no matter what time of the year it is. Best color on the lizard is watermelon and watermelon-red. Feel free to give me a call if you are planning a trip to Toledo Bend or just would like some more information.
